American Studies Student Club

The American Studies student club, which is officially named the American Studies Association (ASA) of Western, aims to provide a place for students interested in American Studies to discuss and explore the North American cultural, political, and social identity, while serving as a point of contact between faculty and students. The club provides a social and academic platform for students to enrich their understanding, explore their interests, and participate in events and activities. Undergraduate and graduate students welcome. Please contact Department Rep Brendan Clements if you would like more information about the club.

News & Upcoming Events

Club Annual General Meeting February 9, 2012

Our first Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb 9, 5:30pm in the CAS office. We will elect our executives for the upcoming year and continue to discuss exactly what our club will be involved in by means of events, committees, etc. The executive positions available are as follows: President, VP Academics, VP Events, VP Communication, VP Outreach, VP Finance, Secretary. For each of this positions, one or more names have already been submitted as candidates. If you are at all interested in any of these positions, please submit your name and be prepared to deliver a short speech before the vote. Brendan Clements will be acting as our CRO to oversee this inaugural election process.

Faculty & Student Meet & Greet Event: January 18, 1:00-3:30pm

New Department Representative

Congratulations to third-year student Daniel Bain who was elected as an American Studies Department Representative following the October 19th Social Science Student Council elections. Club Meeting Sept 27, 2011

The first unofficial meeting of Western's American Studies Association student club will be Tuesday, September 27th in the American Studies boardroom at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome, the meeting will be to discuss the procedure for electing official members, potential events/ trips and ways to attract new members.

Social Science Student Council 2010 Elections

The Social Science Students Council will soon be holding their 2010 elections for various departments, and there are 2 positions available for American Studies.

There will be 2 American Studies Representatives elected, and their responsibilities are as follows:

- Liase between their department and the SSSC
- Has periodical meetings with their department chair and respective department club/association to keep up to date, whether it be with new courses, professors, where to go seek academic help, and much more
- Help out with Fall Preview Day and March Open House to provide prospective students with program information
- Organize at least one event for respective department
- Be an engaged and contributing member of the SSSC to help further enhance the Social Science student experience

This is a great chance to get involved with the American Studies undergraduate program, and to represent your fellow students and department in the faculty.
